Hito Steyerl receives Käthe Kollwitz Prize
Hito Steyerl, visual artist and Professor of Experimental Film and Video at University of the Arts in Berlin, has been awarded the Käthe Kollwitz Prize 2019 by the Akademie der Künste in Berlin. The prize is accompanied by an exhibition and publication. Steyerl is honoured for her special interests in the media, technology, and the dissemination of images, and her provocative and astute combinations of physical, visual, and intellectual information. Her works have been exhibited at the Venice Biennale, the Museum of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles, and the Museum of Modern Art, New York, among others. A review of one of Steyerl’s museum retrospectives, written by Paula Albuquerque and published in our Spring 2015 issue, can be revisited here.
