Online Talk – ‘The Cinematic Image: A Radically Novel Form’

June 7, 2022/in News /by Greg DeCuir

On 7 June 2022 from 18-20h (CEST), the ICOG theme group Arts, Medium, and Moving Images at the University of Groningen will host this year’s final Research Colloquium on ‘The Cinematic Image: A Radically Novel Form’. In this talk, Tom Gunning (Professor Emeritus at the University of Chicago) will investigate the novelty of the cinematic image: its quality as a profoundly different sort of representation, based in technology and the interface between spectators and an apparatus, and characterized both by being a moving image and an image that is nonmaterial, carried by light moving through space.

You can find more information and the registration form here.
