16mm film sacrifice and destruction @ Millenium Film Workshop

June 28, 2012/in News

Here is a unique avant-garde performance. The GrandFlower Ceremony, taking place on 8 July at Millenium Film Workshop in Manhattan. A ritual honoring the detritus of analogue film production. The vehicle of sacrifice is a translucent plexiglass structure modeled after the continuous processing machines from which these 16mm films were born, and as the ceremony progresses you will be able to observe film emulsion dissolve before your eyes in a bleach bath.

With detritus, scraps, and dissolution in mind, a reminder about our special issue on ‘waste’ in autumn 2013.
